Challenge Overview

This competition invites you to design a portable greenhouse, a small, lightweight structure that can be easily moved and set up in different locations to support growing plants. Your design should fit within a 2 by 4 sq. ft. footprint and use sustainable materials to promote food security in communities that need it most.

Please note: you are submitting a model or design, not building a real greenhouse.

Your design should reflect:
• Environmental sustainability
• Cultural relevance
• Creative and practical use
• Aesthetic appeal
• Features that protect plants from pests

Challenge Requirements

Each participant or team (up to 3 people) must submit:

 

1. Design Layout:

  • Floor Plan, Section, and 3D View with dimensions

2. Design Statement (100–300 words):

  • Address the environmental challenge

  • Justify design decisions

  • Explain aesthetic/cultural influences

  • List of Sustainable/Resilient Features

  • List of Materials

  • List of people participating in ones group

      3. Model Submission

       • digital file (Photo, SketchUp, Blender, hand drawing, etc.)

4. Community Context

 •  Optional: Photos/interviews/use case documentation

Judging Rubric

1. Design Innovation

  • Excellent (5): Original and visually striking

  • Good (3): Functional and thoughtful

  • Needs Work (1): Minimal innovation

2. Sustainability

  • Excellent (5): Multiple sustainable features well integrated and clearly address environmental vulnerability

  • Good (3): Some sustainable elements and attention to risk

  • Needs Work (1): Few or unclear sustainability efforts and resilience strategy

3. Feasibility

  • Excellent (5): Realistic materials and buildability

  • Good (3): Moderately feasible

  • Needs Work (1): Unrealistic or vague plan

4. Presentation

  • Excellent (5): Professional, well-organized visuals

  • Good (3): Clear but limited visuals

  • Needs Work (1): Unclear or incomplete visuals
